Essential Information for Charitable Beneficiaries

Join us for an informed conversation between Aubrie Girou, estate and trust lawyer, and Karen Brown, director of estate giving and philanthropy on everything about passing executor’s accounts. The discussion will include a review of the legislative reason for passing accounts, obligations of executors and residual beneficiaries, common concerns, conflicts, and consequences, and procedural basics. Scope of session is focused on the perspective of a residual beneficiary charity.

The topic will be presented from the point of view of a charity named in a will to receive all or a portion of the residue of an estate. As a residual beneficiary, we receive a copy of the Executor’s Accounts and are asked to approve those Accounts. Join us for a discussion on what happens when the Accounts are problematic and we are required to consider our options. Content is relevant to any organization that has been a residual beneficiary under a will. Legacy gifts do not have a right to review executor accounts beyond the specific legacies.
