Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) and its Impact on Philanthropy Sponsored by KPMG

Registration is closed for this event
Join us for this informative presentation on the AMT and how these proposed changes for 2024 might impact high net-worth donors. AMT isn’t always well-known or understood. It’s an alternate tax calculation method to ensure that everybody pays at least a minimum amount of tax. In Canada’s 2023 federal budget, the government introduced some changes to the AMT formula that could affect how High Net-Worth (HNW) donors make major donations. The AMT changes will have a broader impact on taxpayers — particularly individuals for whom a significant component of their income is represented by taxable capital gains and those claiming significant tax credits such as donations which reduce their taxes payable. Ryan Palmer, CPA CA Partner of KPMG LLP, and Rick Braun Janzen, Director of Gift Planning of Abundance Canada will walk you through how AMT currently works, what the federal government proposes to change, and how this may affect a high network donor. This presentation is eligible for 1.25 CFRE Credit.
